Danfoss ICE Awards 2015 Brings Cold Chain Stakeholders On One Platform; Recognises Adopters Of Energy Efficient Cooling Technologies

Diverse stakeholders from the farm to fork ecosystem in India get recognition for using most energy efficient cooling technology in Agri-logistics and food processing

Danfoss India, the Indian subsidiary of leading Climate and Energy solutions provider Danfoss Global, today Danfosspresented the prestigious 2015 Danfoss Indian Cold chain Excellence (ICE) Awards here, distinguishing cold chain players who follow best practices that promote both efficiency and productivity in the cold chain industry.

Royale Marine Impex received the Best Food processing Facility Award for using the most energy efficient technology like flake ice mechanism and energy efficient compressors in their cold storage. Awards in other categories include Best Maintained Cold Storage Award for Mother Dairy Fruit & Vegetables Pvt. Ltd. Delhi and Suri Agrofresh, Progressive Service Provider Award for Coldstar Logistics, Progressive Association Award for Cold Storage Association of Uttar Pradesh, Progressive Farmer’s Award for Sukhjit Singh Bhatti, Bhatti Agritech and GenX Award for Abhimanyu Narang from Narang Group and Senthil Natarajan from Kovai Pazhamudir and Dynamic Leadership Award for Ashok Mirchandani from Carrier Transicold.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Ravichandran Purushothaman, President, Danfoss Industries Pvt Ltd, India said, “We are delighted that the third edition of Danfoss ICE Awards, one of the prestigious Awards in the industry today, is being held at Chandigarh for the first time. The development of cold chain industry has an important role to play in reducing the wastages of the perishable commodities and thus providing remunerative prices to the growers. While Chandigarh and the surrounding areas have a number of cold storages, there is a dire need to shift to energy efficient cold chain technologies to ensure their sustainability in the long run

“The ICE Award 2015 winners exemplify the use of energy efficient cold chain technology which not only help save energy for the country but also costs to customers as it helps in overall reduction of energy consumption across the supply chain. We are hopeful that recognitions such as these will help speed up the adoption of efficient technologies in this otherwise energy intensive sector,” added Mr Purushothaman.

Chandigarh is known for its robust cold chain sector with more than 600 cold storages with a capacity of around 1,939,979 MT, but what needs attention is the use of outdated technology, which ultimately impacts end users due to high production, processing and storage costs. This points to the need for more investments to be made in new technologies for cold storage in Chandigarh. Results of an independent study reveal that more than 70% of cold storage facilities in Chandigarh utilise only outdated technology.

Having studied cold chain requirements of the Union Territory, Danfoss has developed customized products for the Indian environment which can improve profitability. As a key enabler in the sustainable farm-to fork process, Danfoss plays a crucial role in saving energy and operational costs across the cold chain sector and some of the products that help save energy include Variable Frequency drives for motors and different applications across the chain, optyma slim pack CU & microplate heat exchanger, LLZ /MLZ compressors for cold room and cold storage applications, industrial refrigeration line components such as ICF Valve station, ICV, STC, food retail applications such as Adapcool controllers and system manager, commercial refrigeration applications like filter driers, electronic expansion valves, solenoid valves and sight glass.
