The state government’s effort to push the IT sector beyond the boundaries of Hyderabad may yield positive results in 2016 as the Telangana IT department is holding parleys with four top notch domestic IT players, including Infosys, urging them to look at setting up centres in Tier-II centres.

“Whenever we talk of IT in Tier-II centres, we give the example of Mysore, which has become a noted IT hub due to the presence of Infosys. So, we have been discussing with Infosys about the possibility of having their presence in Warangal. We have been in touch with them for the last three to four months, but nothing concrete has been finalised yet,” Telangana IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan told TOI.

Meanwhile, Infosys did not offer comment on their talks with the Telangana government. In fact, Infosys, in February 2016, will be inaugurating its largest campus at Pocharam in Hyderabad with a capacity of 25,000 seats.

Telangana IT and Panchayat Raj minister K T Rama Rao on Monday had said, “Infosys MD and CEO Vishal Sikka has invited us to inaugurate their largest campus at Pocharam in February. We would request Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao to unveil the IT policy of the state also at that time.”

Rao had earlier stated that the state government, in its IT policy, will be doling out additional sweeteners for IT firms who will set up units in tier-2 centres. Apart from offering incentives, the government will also invest in setting up requisite infrastructure in these centres, he had said. Ranjan pointed out that apart from Infosys, the government is also in talks with other domestic IT giants to invest in Telangana’s Tier-II centres. However, he did not reveal the names of the companies.

The state government has identified Warangal, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Khammam as the potential Tier-II centres in the state where IT sector can take off, he added.
