ChatGPT introduces the capability to upload and assess various document types, including PDFs

OpenAI recently unveiled a novel feature called ‘Advanced data analysis’ for their ChatGPT service. This new capability allows users to upload documents, including PDF files, and have them analyzed by the AI-powered chatbot. Presently, this functionality is in its beta phase and exclusively accessible to ChatGPT Plus subscribers.

The feature is designed to accommodate a variety of document formats, such as PDFs, data files, and others. It caters to users seeking quick summaries, data point comprehension, and even the generation of graphs and charts based on the data embedded within the uploaded file.

Users can activate the ‘Advanced data analysis’ feature by navigating to ChatGPT settings and enabling it in the ‘beta features’ section.

A user named ‘luokai’ shared their interaction with ChatGPT on Threads, where they experimented by uploading an image of a capybara. They asked the chatbot to generate a Pixar-style image from that original photo. Additionally, they uploaded an image of a skateboard and requested the chatbot to create an image with the capybara holding it. However, the AI-generated image amusingly depicted the capybara holding a hat placed on the skateboard.

Besides the file analysis feature, OpenAI has also introduced multimodal support, allowing for the automatic selection of various modes such as Browse with Bing or Code Interpreter, removing the necessity for manual mode changes by users. As these updates are still being gradually rolled out, it may take some time before all ChatGPT Plus members have access to these features.
