ChatGPT introduces new feature to remember your preferences

OpenAI has recently introduced a new feature called “custom instructions” for users of ChatGPT. With this feature, users can provide specific instructions to the chatbot, eliminating the need to repeat the same prompts in every interaction. This allows users to share relevant information and preferences, such as the format of responses or personal details like age, location, or family size. By doing so, users can streamline their interactions with the chatbot and receive more tailored responses. The feature also works with plug-ins, making it convenient for users to receive location-based recommendations and specific information. Currently, this feature is available exclusively for “Plus” plan users and is in its beta testing phase, not yet available in the United Kingdom and Europe.
To access beta features:
To enable ‘Custom instructions’ in OpenAI’s API models, follow these steps:
Click on ‘Profile & Settings’ and select ‘Beta features.’
Toggle on ‘Custom instructions.’
To add your instructions, click on your name and select ‘Custom instructions.’
For iOS users, access the feature through ‘New Features’ in Settings and turn on ‘Custom Instructions.’
To ensure safety and prevent harmful responses, OpenAI will use its moderation API to scan customized instructions. If the responses violate company policies, ChatGPT may refuse to save or ignore the instructions.
This update comes amid increasing competition for OpenAI’s chatbot, as Google’s Bard, Meta’s LLaMA 2, and Baidu’s Ernie enter the AI language model space.
