BSNL starts free roaming services with Rajasthan

Under a new tag of “One Nation: One number: One rupee”, Rajasthan BSNL has offered free roaming services anywhere in the country for its pre-paid mobile customers on a special tariff voucher (STV).

bsnlThe scheme began yesterday in which customers are required to buy a recharge through STV of 92 which will allow them unlimited free incoming calls for 90 days while roaming anywhere in the country, its GM-Marketing Sanjay Kumar said in a statement today.

STV customers can make outgoing call (local and STD) at 1.50 paise per second, he said.

Two other STV vouchers of Rs. 5 and Rs. 67 have also been released with free roaming facilities to provide maximum facilities to pre-paid mobile users, he added.

In late-January, the state-owned telecom firms BSNL and MTNL were reported to be likely to launch new roaming plans from January 26 that would offer their subscribers free calls.

“MTNL has plans to make roaming free for its customers on its network in Delhi and Mumbai without any additional charge,” had said an official source.

He added, however, that BSNL will also have a roaming plan for free calls, but its customers may have to shell out Re. 1 a day to avail of the facility.

Several private telecom operators already offer plans under which, for a monthly or daily fee starting Rs. 5, people get all incoming calls without roaming charges.

MTNL has operations in Delhi and Mumbai only, while BSNL has operations across country except in these two circles.

MTNL’s Mumbai customers will not have to pay any extra charge when they travel to Delhi, and same scheme will apply for its Delhi customers.
