AWS at Mobile World Congress 2024 – Day 1: Announcement Recap

On Day 1 at Mobile World Congress 2024, AWS is excited to share several noteworthy announcements, including:

  • Opening the power of telecom networks to AWS developers
    • AWS announced it is partnering with telcos globally to offer telco network APIs to AWS developers. These developers already use thousands of AWS APIs from over 240 AWS services, and now they can access telco APIs to build applications and host them on AWS.
    • Working alongside Verizon, Telefónica, T-Mobile, Orange, and Liberty Global, AWS is continuing this journey with telcos globally in bringing network APIs from their networks to reach more developers and customers through AWS Marketplace.

Generative AI

  • BT Group advances AI-enhanced product development with Amazon CodeWhisperer
    • BT Group’s Digital Unit has deployed Amazon CodeWhisperer, by Amazon Web Services (AWS), to provide generative AI coding assistance to its software engineers. This marks the first in a suite of generative AI tools that BT Group plans to introduce to enhance product development processes across the business as part of its drive for modernisation, efficiency and superior tooling for its workforce.
    • The work to implement Amazon CodeWhisperer is a great example of the value, efficiency and support generative AI can offer. For BT Group, it helps the engineering community finish coding tasks faster, allowing them to focus on the bigger picture of how they deliver the best solutions for the business and their customers.
  • Snowflake to showcase telco AI innovations and enhanced ecosystem partnerships at MWC 2024
    • AWS has been working with Snowflake to transform the telecom sector, helping to resolve technical work queries from days to just minutes, by compiling data from cell towers, physical addresses and points of interest, and combining them with customer loyalty information and BSS and OSS details;
    • AWS worked with Snowflake to build GenTwin, an innovative Network Operations solution blending private 5G, #generativeAI using Amazon Bedrock, and digital twins using AWS IoT TwinMaker to empower industries with unparalleled efficiency, automation, and adaptability, heralding a transformative era for network management.

Network Transformation

  • Samsung and AWS Power Innovation in Virtualized RAN Networks on Public Cloud
    • Samsung is collaborating with AWS to bring end-to-end virtualized and software-centric networks to the market.
    • Samsung is spearheading 5G innovation through trailblazing collaboration with AWS, providing a glimpse into the future of end-to-end virtualized networks and offering creative paths and improved capabilities to satisfy various demands for next-generation services and features.
  • Red Hat and Tech Mahindra Enable Greater Hybrid Cloud Flexibility for Telco Workloads
    • Red Hat, Inc. is collaborating with Tech Mahindra to make it easier for telecommunications service providers to accelerate and manage 5G adoption and deployments across the hybrid cloud.
    • Tech Mahindra’s Multi-mode Companion Cloud with Red Hat OpenShift running on AWS can support multiple network use cases, spanning RAN, edge computing, transport and 5G core, to extend capabilities across hybrid cloud environments.

Network Monetization

  • Intel Teams with Partners to Enable and Grow End-to-End Private Networks Market
    • Intel has collaborated with several scale companies to give customers access to private 5G solutions and vertical market deployments around the world.
    • AWS’s continued collaboration with Intel is helping customers accelerate private network deployments across many vertical markets. The latest example includes the addition of Amdocs as a system integrator for the Integrated Private Wireless (IPW) on AWS program. Through the program, AWS customers can access end-to-end Amdocs Mobile Private Network (MPN) services, and the infrastructure, built on AWS Outposts servers, is powered by Intel® Xeon® processors.
