Asus India has announced that the ZenFone 2 series will be launching on April 23 in India. The company’s official invite (see below) teases that the April 23 launch event will see the “world’s first 4GB RAM smartphone.”
The company already on Monday revealed that it would launch three variants of the ZenFone 2 in India this month. While the company hasn’t specified precisely which these variants are, Asus has since the CES 2015 launch of the ZenFone 2 unveiled three variants – the Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML, Asus ZenFone 2 ZE550ML, and Asus ZenFone 2 ZE500CL – with the first featuring its own sub-variants.
The Taiwanese company earlier didn’t specify the variants that will be headed to the country; leaving room for speculation considering that the Asus ZenFone 2 has several variants, including one with a 5-inch display and a few with 5.5-inch displays, and with memory up to 4GB of RAM.
The Taiwanese handset maker launched the ZenFone 2 series in Taiwan last month, while it recently introduced the handsets to the European market. To recall, the top-end Asus ZenFone 2 model (ZE551ML) comes with 64GB of built-in storage and 4GB of RAM, which was recently revealed at a price of TWD 9,990 (roughly Rs. 19,900).
Other variants launched in Taiwan include the Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML (4GB RAM, and 32GB storage) announced at TWD 8,990 (approximately Rs. 18,000); the ZenFone 2 ZE551ML (2GB RAM) at TWD 6,990 (approximately Rs. 13,900); the Asus ZenFone 2 ZE550ML at TWD 5,990 (approximately Rs. 11,900), and the Asus ZenFone 2 ZE500CL priced at TWD 4,990 (approximately Rs. 9,900).
All variants of the Asus ZenFone 2 run the company’s new ZenUI based on Google’s Android 5.0 Lollipop, and feature Intel Atom SoCs. The Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML (4GB) features a 64-bit 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor, while the 2GB of RAM model features a 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3560. The ZenFone 2 ZE550ML is also powered by the same Intel Atom Z3560 chipset. The basic ZenFone 2 ZE500CL model features a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor. All the versions support expandable storage via microSD card (up to 64GB).
The Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML features a 5.5-inch full-HD display in both the 2GB and 4GB RAM variants, while the Asus ZenFone 2 ZE550ML features a 5.5-inch HD display. The ZenFone 2 ZE500CL is the basic model of the series and features a 5-inch HD display – it also only supports single-SIM, unlike other variants in the ZenFone-series.
The Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML (4GB and 2GB of RAM) and ZenFone 2 ZE550ML both sport 13-megapixel rear PixelMaster camera while there is a 5-megapixel front camera on board as well. Both the ZenFone 2 ZE551ML models feature dual-tone flash. The Zenfone 2 ZE500CL sports an 8-megapixel rear PixelMaster camera alongside a 2-megapixel camera.
Both the ZenFone 2 ZE551ML models and the ZenFone 2 ZE550ML are backed by a 3000mAh battery while the Zenfone 2 ZE500CL features a 2500mAh battery.
