Apple has unveiled its inaugural carbon-neutral products through the latest Apple Watch series. These advancements in design and sustainable energy have led to a remarkable 75% decrease in product emissions for each carbon-neutral Apple Watch.

This milestone marks a significant stride toward Apple’s ambitious objective of achieving carbon neutrality for all its products by 2030, encompassing the entire supply chain and the complete lifecycle of each device.

Leather-Free Materials: Apple has completely phased out the use of leather in all its product categories, substituting it with an eco-friendly material known as FineWoven.

Eco-Conscious Packaging: The new Apple Watch series showcases packaging that is 100% fiber-based, aligning with a plastic-free packaging target by 2025.

Recycled Resources: Apple is continuously boosting its utilization of recycled materials in products like the iPhone, resulting in substantial reductions in emissions.

Grid Forecast Tool: Apple has introduced the Grid Forecast tool within the Home app, enabling users to identify cleaner energy sources and make environmentally friendly choices. This Grid Forecast feature will be available across the entire mainland United States.

Apple’s approach to decarbonization prioritizes emissions reduction across the product life cycle, with a focus on electricity, materials, and transportation. Any remaining emissions are offset using carbon credits from nature-based initiatives.

All carbon-neutral Apple Watch models adhere to stringent criteria, encompassing clean electricity sources, recycled materials, and reduced air transportation. These models are certified by SCS Global Services.

Apple is dedicated to clean energy adoption and collaborates with suppliers to transition to 100% renewable electricity. The company actively supports large-scale solar and wind projects and advocates for clean energy policies.

Incorporating recycled and renewable materials into its products is a fundamental part of Apple’s strategy to minimize its environmental footprint. This commitment extends to materials such as FineWoven, recycled metals, and yarn sourced from discarded fishing nets.

Apple is also reducing transportation emissions by shifting toward less carbon-intensive shipping methods and optimizing packaging for efficiency.

To address climate change, Apple intends to counterbalance residual emissions with high-quality carbon credits obtained from nature-based projects, recognizing the significance of carbon removal.
