Apple Unveils iPhone 16e, Marking the End of the SE Series

Apple has officially launched the iPhone 16e, the latest addition to the iPhone 16 lineup, effectively marking the end of the iPhone SE series. The iPhone 16e is essentially a rebranded iPhone SE 4, signaling Apple’s decision to retire the “Special Edition” branding that it has used for its budget iPhones since 2016. With this move, the iPhone SE 3 (2022) becomes the last iPhone to carry the SE branding.

Despite the name change, the iPhone 16e stays true to the SE series’ core philosophy—affordability. In India, the device is priced at ₹59,900 for the base variant with 128GB storage, while the 512GB top-end model costs ₹89,900.

A Long-Awaited Redesign with Modern Features

The iPhone 16e introduces a major design overhaul, bringing it more in line with Apple’s latest smartphones. Unlike its predecessor, which was based on the iPhone 8, this new model adopts several next-generation technologies, including Apple Intelligence, making it the most advanced budget iPhone yet.

One of the most notable changes is the removal of the Home Button with Touch ID. The previous iPhone SE 3 was the last iPhone in Apple’s lineup to retain this older technology, alongside the now-outdated Lightning port. Apple’s shift to USB Type-C across its devices has finally extended to its most affordable iPhone, ensuring compliance with European Union (EU) regulations that mandate USB-C charging ports for all electronic devices.

A Necessary Evolution for the European Market

Apple’s decision to introduce the iPhone 16e was also driven by regulatory requirements. The iPhone SE 3 was removed from sale in the EU due to its Lightning connector, which no longer met the region’s charging standards. By integrating USB-C, the iPhone 16e can now return to the European market, aligning with Apple’s broader strategy of unifying its device ecosystem.

A Budget-Friendly iPhone with Flagship Capabilities

Despite being a budget option, the iPhone 16e doesn’t compromise on performance. It is expected to include Apple’s latest AI-powered features, a powerful processor, and a revamped design that offers a more modern iPhone experience. These enhancements make the iPhone 16e a compelling choice for users looking for an affordable yet feature-rich iPhone.

End of an Era, Beginning of a New One

With the launch of the iPhone 16e, Apple has officially retired the SE branding, which had been synonymous with budget-friendly iPhones for nearly a decade. This move signals a fresh start, with the company focusing on standardizing its lineup while ensuring that even its most affordable iPhone keeps pace with modern technology.

The iPhone 16e is now available for purchase, bringing the SE legacy into a new era of innovation while maintaining its commitment to affordability and performance.
