Apple Showcases Characteristics For iPhone 12 Case’s Need for MagSafe Suitability

Apple in October had introduced the iPhone 12 series and a special MagSafe accessory that can work with magnets to provide a better experience. Although, Apple does not want to restrict itself as the only source that can bring MagSafe accessories for the newest family of iPhone, and is allowing 3rd-party accessory developers to build the latest cases, covers, and other add-ons for the latest iPhone 12 models. The Cupertino giant has updated its Accessory Design Guidelines that showcases all the important requirements accessory firms need to have in place to deliver MagSafe suitability on their items. The rules are also helpful to know if the case or accessory that one is purchasing for iPhone 12 is suitable for MagSafe.

The Accessory Design Guidelines list some specific rules that accessory makers have to abide by to bring the latest Snap-On experience via MagSafe tech. The cases which carry MagSafe support must have a 2.1mm of unvarying maximum thickness. Although, Apple has recommended them to be 2.0mm thick according to the updated rules which were seen by one of the users from Twitter.

The cases that come with MagSafe support should also be resolutely attached to the device without depending on the magnets. Further, there shouldn’t be any supplementary magnets on the back of the case other than the magnets that support the MagSafe technology.

It is also significant to note that 3rd -party cases should work with MagSafe Charger and the iPhone Leather Wallet that the US company presented alongside the iPhone 12 series in October. This is targeted at delivering a lag-free wireless charging functionality and to make sure that the magnet array on the case is not being intrusive with the magnetic stripe cards in the involved wallet.

If we talk about the mechanical side, the company has said that all magnets of the MagSafe case magnet array should be located in the same area and that the case and MagSafe Case magnet array should allow MagSafe accessories to magnetically align itself inside a 1.55mm radial maximum. The MagSafe case magnets should further be neodymium iron boron magnets with a Nickel plating or a comparable finish of between 7mm and 13mm.

The 3rd-party case is attached to the device that should further need a magnetic force of between 800 and 1,100gf to remove a MagSafe accessory. The company has also pointed out 2 separate ways in which the magnetic ring should be entrenched on the case to work with MagSafe accessories.

Following the updated rules are obligatory for accessory makers labeling MagSafe-suitability on their accessories. This recommends that the company wants to develop the ecosystem around MagSafe by bringing dependable 3rd -party accessories and cases to the Indian market and also its in-house Silicon Case, Clear Case, iPhone Leather Wallet, and the MagSafe Charger.
