Apple iPhone 7, 7 Plus Red colour variants up for pre-orders in India


Apple’s all-new Red colour variant of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (PRODUCT RED) are up for pre-orders in India. The smartphone can be pre-booked on Tata-owned retailer Croma’s website. Some of the Apple’s retailers in India like IWorld too are reported to be accepting pre-bookings for the device.
Apple last month unveiled the PRODUCT RED iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones along with new 9.7-inch iPads. The Red colour iPhones went on sale in the US, UK and some other select markets on March 24. The Cupertino giant though announced the smartphones’ India pricing at the same time, the exact availability details were not revealed.
The Croma website has started taking pre-orders for 128GB and 256GB versions of both the models. The iPhone 7 PRODUCT RED 128GB and 256GB are listed at Rs 70,000 and Rs 80,000 respectively. The Plus variants of iPhone 7 carry a price tag of Rs 82,000 and Rs 92,000.
Though the website has not given the shipping dates, for most pincodes of metro cities that we entered the website said, “This product can be delivered to [PIN CODE] in 21 days. Free Delivery.”
This is for the first time that Apple has launched Red colour variant of its flagship phones. In the past, the company has introduced Red colour variants of its other products including the original iPod Nano and Beats products. Several iPad, iPhone and Apple Watch accessories too come in Red colour.
The new iPhones are part of the company’s Red initiative, which funds programmes that combat HIV and AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.
Besides the colour, everything else inside the smartphones stays the same. The iPhone 7 features a 4.7-inch Retina HD display, while the bigger iPhone 7 Plus comes with a 5.5-inch screen. Apart from this, other additions include a 12MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, 6-element lens, quad-LED flash, flicker sensor and more. The smartphones’ cameras use an Image signal processor to apply machine learning, for distinguishing between humans and other object in the image, adjusting the brightness and noise levels accordingly.
It’s worth noting that while iPhone 7 features a single 12MP rear camera, iPhone 7 Plus comes with a 12MP dual rear camera setup having 2x optical zoom capability. Both sport a 7MP FaceTime-enabled front camera for selfies and video chats.
The two smartphones are powered by Apple’s new quad-core A10 Fusion chipset, with two high-performance cores and two high-efficiency cores. It’s also claimed to be 50% faster than the A9 chipset, which powers theiPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus smartphones.
