Android Wear platform will support watch faces

Google is primarily looking at ones which can look good but don’t compromise on battery life and also merge well with the watches card-based UI.

Looks like global search engine giant Google, already known for providing heavy customisation on its Android OS platform is all set to continue this trend with its Android Wear platform as well. In a recent development, Google has confirmed that the Android Wear platform will support watch faces from third-party developers.

“Customisation has helped Android thrive, and the same will be true for Android Wear,” Wayne Piekarski, Wear’s Senior Developer Advocate wrote in a Google+ post. Google is already working on a custom watch face API that will make it probable for developers to make all-around great watch faces, according to Piekarski. Google is primarily looking at ones which can look good but don’t compromise on battery life and also blend well with the watches card-based UI.

LG has announced the global availability of its foremost Android Wear based wearable, the G Watch. The device will be available via online channels as well in retail stores across twelve countries including Australia, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Spain, South Korea, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany and United States. Meanwhile, it will be available for grabs from physical retailers in fifteen countrie including Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Singapore and New Zealand. Price of the device will be decided by LG locally depending upon the market.

The G watch went up for pre-order at a price tag of Rs 14,999 via Google Play India soon after Google’s I/O 2014 Keynote address. The gadget is however listed as ‘out of inventory’ as of now. The LG G Watch features a 4.191-cm (1.65-inch) IPS display with a 280×280 pixels resolution. It is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor coupled with 512MB of RAM. It comes with 4GB of inbuilt storage. The device boasts of Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and a 9-axis sensor. It decks in a a 400mAh battery. The gadget is dust and water resistance with an IP67 rating.
