Android 14 Beta 5.1 Addresses Minor Glitches, Stable Version Coming Soon

The launch of Android 14 is imminent. Following its first developer preview in February, the fifth beta version, deemed close to the final build, has been unveiled by Google. The company has recently introduced Beta 5.1, aimed at addressing last-minute glitches. This update can now be obtained as an over-the-air (OTA) patch for various Pixel devices, including the Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5 series, Pixel 6 series, Pixel 7 series, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet.

Beta 5.1 rectifies a range of issues, encompassing connectivity disruptions, a vacant home screen display, and problems related to SIM cards. The complete list of fixes, directly derived from Google’s release notes, includes:

• Correction of a problem causing the system to overlook a SIM card when Fixed Dialing Number (FDN) functionalities were activated.
• Resolution of connectivity interruptions encountered by devices linked to carriers utilizing 5G standalone (SA) mode.
• Rectification of the occurrence where certain devices displayed an empty home screen post unlocking.
• Enhancement of performance through the temporary deactivation of feather-styled live wallpaper on Pixel Fold. The live wallpaper version will be reinstated after other underlying issues are resolved.

Given the minor nature of these bug fixes, it appears that Android 14 is likely poised for its stable release. Owners of Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold devices will receive this patch as UPB5.230623.005.A1, while other eligible Pixel devices will obtain the build UPB5.230623.005. Updating your device can be accomplished through Settings > Software > Software update.
