Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Enables Networks To Be ‘Application Aware’ From Core To Edge

Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch(R) 6860 Stackable LAN switches at a glance:

– Visibility of up to 2000 applications at the network edge
– Unified management enables IT to prioritize business critical applications with unmatched visibility and control
– Broader set of consumer-grade devices like printers and video displays can be auto-discovered in a corporate environment
– Better network performance gained with increased stacking capacity

The latest Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch(R) 6860 family of stackable LAN access switches enables businesses to Alcatel-Lucent logoevolve to a modern network – one that is application aware and provides a better user experience, while simplifying IT management. The OmniSwitch 6860, part of the Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Unified Access solution, delivers a consistent, quality user experience on both wired and wireless networks, with one management system for end-to-end visibility and simplified IT operations.

The solution is designed to meet the increased stress on the enterprise network created by the growth in content rich applications and the move to cloud. The new release of OmniSwitch 6860 with the Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista 2500 Network Management system gives IT visibility and control of applications, up to as many as 2000 apps, on both the wired and wireless networks. Data collected can be used to create policies, enforce quality of service, limit bandwidth consumption, or block specific applications to deliver the best outcome for the business while simplifying the role of IT.

Integrated network service on the OmniSwitch 6860 makes connecting consumer-grade devices to the enterprise network as simple as the discovery mechanisms available on a home network. This current release expands the range to support all DLNA consumer-like devices – more than 25,000 of them – which includes TVs, projectors, printers, etc., from more than 200 companies including Microsoft, Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, LG Electronics, etc.

Stacking switches simplify the management and increase the resilience and performance of the network. Any combination of the OmniSwitch 6860 four 10GigE ports and the two 20G ports can be used as stacking ports, creating a flexible and high-performance 160 Gbps stacking capacity. The 10G ports can be used for remote stacking, where units are as far apart as up to 10Km of distance and remain easy to manage and provide high availability.

The OmniSwitch 6860 is considered to be one of the most advanced gigabit access switches, including high performance, DPI, PoE+ and high power PoE (up to 60W), SDN ready and flexible enough to be used in both campus and datacenter networks. It is also SDN-ready, securing the investment for future alternative network architectures.
