Airtel Partners With Ericsson To Provide 4G Services In Delhi

After acquiring Augere Wireless, Airtel is all set to enter Airtel_4Ginto a contract with Ericsson to introduce its 4G services in the national capital. If the reports are to be believed, both have entered into a four-year long agreement. This happens to be another massive step by the telecom service provider to take on its competitor Reliance Jio.

This also seems to be the Swedish company’s first 4G network using LTE-FDD technology in Delhi. Reports further suggest that Ericsson has also bagged another contract to roll out its 3G services across eight telecom circles in India. The firm however did not disclose the financial details of the deal.

As per a company statement, “Bharti Airtel has chosen Ericsson to roll out 4G network for its subscribers in Delhi. This four-year agreement marks the first LTE-FDD (long term evolution-frequency division duplex) roll-out by Ericsson in Delhi.”

With the introduction of 4G network, Delhites would be able to enjoy an enhanced Internet experience with faster Web browsing speed. Meanwhile, LTE subscriptions are expected to reach 230 million users by 2020.

”The Delhi market is currently experiencing a rapid increase in the uptake of data-centric services. As market leaders, we at Airtel are deeply committed towards delivering the best data experience for smartphone users and have made investment in high speed 4G network to improve the data experience of the customer,” said Abhay Savargaonkar, chief technology officer, Bharti Airtel.

On the other hand, Paolo Colella, head of region India, Ericsson declared, “Our global leadership and expertise made it possible to roll-out the LTE network in record time. LTE will be a key enabler in realising Ericsson’s vision of the Networked Society and our high capacity LTE network infrastructure will enable Airtel subscribers to enjoy a seamless, high-speed mobile broadband experience.”
