Airtel Launches Voice and SMS-Only Prepaid Plans Following TRAI Mandate

Bharti Airtel has introduced new prepaid recharge plans focused solely on voice and SMS services, following the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) directive. These Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs) are tailored for users who do not require mobile data, such as feature phone users or those with secondary SIM cards.

New Plans for Voice and SMS

The updated offerings include:

  • ₹509 Plan: Provides unlimited voice calls and 900 SMS with a validity of 84 days. Data services have been excluded to meet the needs of voice-centric users.
  • ₹1,999 Plan: Includes unlimited voice calls and 3,600 SMS valid for 365 days.

Beyond the included SMS quota, charges will apply at Re. 1 per local SMS and ₹1.5 per STD SMS.

Added Benefits

Airtel may bundle these plans with additional perks, such as:

  • Apollo 24/7 Circle membership, offering healthcare benefits.
  • Free Hello Tunes for personalization.

A Step Towards Transparency

Although these voice and SMS-only plans are yet to appear on Airtel’s website or app, they mark a significant move towards consumer-centric offerings. TRAI’s recent mandate encourages telecom operators to enhance tariff transparency and cater to diverse user needs.

These new plans highlight Airtel’s effort to address the preferences of non-data users while complying with regulatory guidelines, offering a balanced approach for affordable and focused telecom services.
