“We have recorded a growth 35 percent on account of customer base in Jharkhand,” Arvind Singh Shekhawat, Regional Manager (Central), of Aircel told reporters in Jamshedpur.

As part of the network expansion exercise, he said Aircel has significantly enhanced capacity in all its sites across the city and added 54 sites that would redefine the 3Gdata usage experience with a maximum speed of up to 7.2Mbps.

Shekhawat said the company had introduced a special recharge of Rs. 255 offering 1GB of 3G data as well as unlimited local calling from Aircel to Aircel and 25,000 seconds of local/national calling to any network.

He added that Jamshedpur contributed 43 percent revenue from data usage compared with 22 percent by central region of Aircel comprising Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh.

The smartphone penetration in Jamshedpur was around 50 percent because of high literacy rate and the people are data savvy, which was reason behind the company recording such a high growth, he claimed.

The company has been registering double digit data usage growth every months in Jamshedpur, he said.
