Google Hindi Keyboard Gets Support For Ten Indic Languages

Now you can type faster in Hindi and other local dialects using Google’s Indic keyboard. 

Google’s Android OS has been growing in reach, especially in Asian countries like China and India. This has led to several new languages which require support. The Indic Keyboard has been developed by Google to cater to nearly 1 billion people across the globe who converse in several Indian dialects.

The keyboard can support up to 11 Indian keyboards which include Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu. The keyboard supports complex scripts along with a host of useful typing features.

There is a Transliteration mode which instantly spells out words by typing their pronunciation through English letters. For instance, by typing “namaste”, we get “नमस्ते“. This is no small task, as a single word can have multiple English-alphabet variations.

The keyboard also has a handwriting mode that can be used for text input. This mode can identify both Devanagari as well as Latin characters. It also offers support for Hinglish which is a hybrid input mode for suggesting Hindi as well as English words in one go.

Apart from these, it is compatible with phones that run on Android 4.0 or newer versions. You can download the app for free from the Play Store. Once it is installed, it can be enabled by choosing the keyboard under Settings -> Language & Input -> Keyboard and Input Methods.
