Samsung Develops New App ‘Dowell’ For Disabled people

Samsung Electronics has Just developed a smartphone app named ‘Dowell’ for disabled people. Especially designed to assist people with arm paralysis, the unique application has a user interface which works with a variety of input methods known as computer assistive devices enabling people with upper limb disabilities to control their smartphone with equipments like head mouse devices, track balls and other existing devices.

Apparently, It eliminates the need for a “button click” controls, pinching and swiping motions required on a smartphone.

 If the application becomes successful, a person with disability would soon be able to control his or her entire house locks, alarms, washer and kitchen appliances. Once the app is installed the user needs to link his smartphone to a USB-type computer assistive device. The upper and lower sections of the smartphone’s screen could then be accessed as DOWELL’s user interface. The user can tap or drag and use other touch commands within the upper screen and bring up the menu, home screen and even use the basic hardware keys of the Galaxy smartphone from the lower screen.

The helpful app lets people with upper limb disabilities to use smartphones efficiently by connecting assistance devices they already posses without having to purchase additional equipment. DOWELL which is expected to work with most Samsung smartphones, is all set to be commercially launched later this year.
