India Leads Global AI Adoption: Robert Kawalsky on the Strategic Impact of Canva AI 2.0

Following the global unveiling of Canva AI 2.0, Robert Kawalsky, Canva’s Head of Product, highlighted India as a premier market driving the practical application of artificial intelligence. Speaking on the launch, Kawalsky emphasized that Indian creators and businesses are at the absolute forefront of utilizing AI-driven design tools to scale their digital presence.

The introduction of Canva AI 2.0 brings “Agentic” workflows to the platform, moving beyond simple image generation to complex, multi-step design automation. According to Kawalsky, the Indian market has shown a unique appetite for these advanced features, particularly in the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector. The new system’s “Layered Intelligence” allows the platform to understand a user’s specific brand identity, enabling the AI to proactively suggest layouts, schedule content, and maintain visual consistency across large-scale campaigns.

“India is not just a large user base; it is an innovation hub where users are pushing the boundaries of what our AI tools can do,” Kawalsky noted. He pointed out that the rapid digital transformation across the subcontinent has made AI an essential utility rather than a luxury. The update also includes enhanced conversational features, allowing users to interact with the design interface as they would with a human assistant.

The launch of AI 2.0 is expected to further empower India’s vast community of freelancers and marketing professionals. By automating repetitive tasks like background removal, language translation, and resizing, the platform aims to democratize professional-grade design. As Canva continues to integrate deeper machine learning capabilities, its focus on the Indian ecosystem remains a central pillar of its global growth strategy.
