TRAI RO Kolkata today organized a seminar on “Rating of Buildings for Digital Connectivity” at Guwahati, Assam. The seminar was organised in the backdrop of “Rating of Properties for Digital Connectivity Regulations” issued by TRAI on 25.10.2024 and with a view to create awareness among the stakeholders about the subject and its implementation.

The seminar was inaugurated by Sh. K. S. Gopinath Narayan, Principal Secretary, Department of IT, Government of Assam, the Chief Guest of the event. Sh. P. K. Singh, Pr. Advisor, TRAI, Sh. R. Meshram, Addl. DG (T), DoT, Assam LSA, Smt. Barnali Sharma, Secretary, RERA, Sh. P. C. Moral, President, Association of Architects, Assam, Sh. P. K. Sharma, President, AREIDA were the other guests of honour to the event. The event was well attended by senior officers of TRAI, Department of Telecom (DoT), Government of Assam (Dept of IT/ DoHUA), North Eastern Council, RERA, AREIDA, Builders, Academia, Telecom and Internet Service Providers (TSP/ ISP), Consumer Organisation and others.
Shri Kaushik Mukherjee, Advisor, TRAI RO Kolkata delivered the welcome address. Other Guests of Honor deliberated upon the need and importance of digital connectivity ratings of buildings. Sh. K. S. Gopinath, Chief Guest, while appreciating the initiatives taken by TRAI, highlighted the importance of its implementation to ensure high quality telecom connectivity inside the buildings, particularly in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in all facets of life.
The deliberations in the seminar were divided in two sessions (the Schedule is annexed). The forenoon session focussed on the Regulations pertaining to Digital Connectivity Rating (DCR), incorporation of the regulatory provisions in the building bye-laws, process, scope and challenges in the rating of properties for digital connectivity.
The second session covered the subject matter from the Telecom Service Providers/ Infrastructure Providers/ Original Equipment Manufacturers’ perspective.
Speakers from TRAI, DoHUA, Government of Assam, Council of Architecture, Digital Connectivity Rating Agency, Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), Infrastructure Providers, Telecom Equipment Manufacturer delivered presentation during the occasion. The speakers on the occasion deliberated on wide range of issues pertaining to rating of buildings for digital connectivity.
The seminar was organised in the spirit of pro-active role of TRAI to work in collaboration with the governments, industry, academia and other stakeholders and ensure that regulatory framework fosters new technological developments and trends.
