In a landmark move for India’s medical sector, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda is set to unveil two major national initiatives on February 17, 2026. During the ongoing India AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, the Minister will launch SAHI (Strategy for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare for India) and BODH (Benchmarking Open Data Platform for Health AI). These frameworks are designed to integrate artificial intelligence into the national healthcare system with a focus on ethics, transparency, and safety.
SAHI: A Roadmap for Ethical AI Adoption
The SAHI initiative serves as a comprehensive national guidance framework. Its primary objective is to facilitate the inclusive and evidence-based adoption of AI across various levels of healthcare. By providing strategic direction on data stewardship, governance, and the validation of AI solutions, SAHI ensures that technological advancements align with India’s public health priorities. It offers a clear path for states and medical institutions to deploy AI tools that are not only technologically advanced but also socially responsible.
BODH: Ensuring Transparency Through Data Benchmarking
The second initiative, BODH, is a pioneering privacy-preserving benchmarking platform. Developed through a collaboration between IIT Kanpur and the National Health Authority (NHA), BODH allows for the rigorous evaluation of AI models using real-world health data. Crucially, the platform maintains strict privacy standards, ensuring that underlying datasets are never exposed during the testing process. Positioned as a digital public good under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), BODH aims to build public trust and ensure quality assurance in medical AI applications.
Building a Globally Competitive Health Ecosystem
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated that these dual launches represent a significant leap toward creating a robust and globally competitive health AI ecosystem. By combining strategic policy (SAHI) with technical infrastructure (BODH), India is positioning itself as a leader in responsible AI. These efforts ensure that the benefits of artificial intelligence reach every citizen, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and treatment efficiency while safeguarding patient privacy and ethical standards.
