The Government of Rajasthan has established a critical new partnership aimed at breaking down language barriers in public service delivery, marking a significant step towards truly inclusive governance. The state’s Department of Information Technology & Communication (DoIT&C) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Digital India ‘BHASHINI’ Division of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The event, which took place at the Bhamashah Data Centre in Jaipur, signals a firm commitment to ensuring digital services are accessible to all citizens in their local languages and dialects.
The core of this landmark agreement involves the strategic integration of BHASHINI’s advanced, AI-powered language translation platform with Rajasthan’s existing digital governance systems. BHASHINI, an initiative under the National Language Translation Mission, utilizes sophisticated Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools to convert information across multiple Indian languages. By incorporating this technology, Rajasthan aims to transform its digital platforms and government services into accessible, multilingual interfaces.
This collaboration is set to be a game-changer for the diverse population of Rajasthan, which features varied regional dialects. The integration ensures that essential e-governance services—ranging from applications and public welfare scheme details to official announcements and educational content—will now be available in the language familiar to the user. This initiative is designed to strengthen digital inclusion, particularly benefiting those in rural or less digitally connected areas who may struggle with accessing services currently offered only in English or standard Hindi.
Rajasthan’s Cabinet Minister, Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore, lauded the partnership as a crucial move toward digital self-reliance and empowerment for the masses. He stressed that the state is taking a proud step towards building a truly Atmanirbhar (Self-Reliant) Digital Bharat. “Swadeshi code, Bhartiya Bhasha, Jan Jan Ki Takneek (Indigenous code, Indian Language, Technology for the Common Man),” Col. Rathore stated, summarizing the core philosophy driving the agreement. He affirmed that the MoU will allow technology to “speak the diverse dialects of Rajasthan,” bringing the power of AI and digital public infrastructure directly to every citizen.
By becoming one of the first states to fully operationalize BHASHINI’s multilingual AI framework within its governance model, Rajasthan is aligning itself directly with the national vision to create a digital ecosystem that is inherently multilingual and citizen-centric, fostering a more connected and digitally empowered future.
