Exclusive Interview with Mr. Vishal Prakash Shah, Founder and CEO, Synersoft Technologies – Empowering Indian MSMEs with Affordable, Secure, and Scalable IT Solutions

In this exclusive interview, Mr. Vishal Prakash Shah shares how Synersoft Technologies is transforming India’s MSME landscape through its flagship innovation, BLACKbox — a Made-in-India IT platform that simplifies data protection, compliance, and hybrid cloud management. He discusses the company’s mission to bridge the digital divide for small businesses, making enterprise-grade IT affordable, secure, and accessible to every MSME.

IT Voice- What was your core vision when you founded Synersoft Technologies in 2008, and how has the company evolved to address the growing digital needs of Indian SMEs?

Vishal Prakash Shah- When we founded Synersoft Technologies in 2008, our core vision was simple yet deeply rooted in India’s business reality — to empower MSMEs with enterprise-grade IT capabilities at an affordable cost. We recognized early that while MSMEs form the backbone of India’s economy, contributing nearly 30% to GDP, they were underserved when it came to IT standardization, data protection, and information security.

Large enterprises had the budgets and manpower to implement complex systems, but MSMEs were left to operate in fragmented, insecure environments, often using consumer-grade tools. This digital divide inspired us to create something uniquely Indian — a plug-and-play IT infrastructure platform designed specifically for the operational scale and budget realities of small and medium enterprises.

Over the years, Synersoft has evolved into a company that doesn’t just sell technology — we solve MSME problems end to end. Our approach is holistic: technology problems are addressed by BLACKbox, while non-technology growth challenges are handled through UnitedSMEs, a shared-services initiative we launched to support MSMEs in recruitment, training, and digital marketing.

Through continuous innovation, we’ve introduced several firsts in the industry — from patented forced data centralization technology to affordable hybrid cloud models and compliance readiness systems. The journey has been driven by a singular purpose: making MSMEs more resilient, compliant, and globally competitive without burdening them with complexity or cost.

IT Voice- BLACKbox has become a recognized brand in the SME tech space. How did the idea originate, and what were the key challenges you faced while commercializing it?

Vishal Prakash Shah- The idea for BLACKbox came from hundreds of conversations with MSME owners. They all faced the same paradox: the need for enterprise-level IT infrastructure, but the inability to afford or manage it. For a small company, investing in servers, firewalls, cloud subscriptions, backup systems, and cybersecurity tools — all separately — was impractical.

We envisioned BLACKbox as an “IT in a Box” solution — a single device that could integrate data protection, security, storage, user management, and compliance readiness. It was about giving MSMEs one affordable, unified platform that replaced five or six separate technologies.

The challenges were immense. Developing such a product meant balancing performance with affordability, engineering an optimized architecture that could run all functionalities on a single hardware. It took us five years of intense R&D, constant iteration, and several prototype versions before we commercialized it successfully.

Convincing MSMEs to trust a made-in-India product in a domain dominated by global players was another hurdle. But real-world proof worked in our favor. Once customers experienced how BLACKbox simplified their IT operations — cutting their capital expenditure by up to 40% and operational costs by 50% — adoption grew organically.

Today, BLACKbox is used by thousands of MSMEs across India. It’s not just a product; it’s a movement to democratize data protection and IT standardization for the sector that needs it the most.

IT Voice- Synersoft recently introduced a Hybrid Email Solution under the BLACKbox brand. What inspired this innovation, and how does it help SMEs balance cost, efficiency, and data security?

Vishal Prakash Shah- Our Hybrid Email Solution was born from a recurring concern among MSMEs: rising email subscription costs. Email has become mission-critical for every organization, but paying enterprise-level rates for every user doesn’t make sense for small teams where only a few require high-capacity mailboxes.

We observed that typically only 10–20% of employees need premium mailboxes (like sales, management, and customer service), while the rest use emails for routine coordination. Yet, most MSMEs were paying for all users at premium prices. This inefficiency inspired us to design a Hybrid Email System that combines the best of both worlds — high-performance cloud mailboxes for critical users and economical local mail hosting for others, managed seamlessly through BLACKbox.

The system intelligently routes mail traffic between the cloud and the BLACKbox cloud server. Premium users enjoy the reliability and accessibility of cloud services, while others use the plain vanilla mailbox, ensuring email policies and vigilance needs of the organization.

This innovation offers up to 70% cost reduction in annual email expenses while maintaining reliability, uptime, and security. It aligns perfectly with our philosophy: “Smart cost optimization without compromising performance.”

It’s not just an email solution — it’s an architectural rethink of how MSMEs can stay connected, compliant, and cost-efficient in a hybrid working world.

IT Voice- How does the BLACKbox Hybrid Email Solution differ from conventional email hosting platforms offered by global giants like Google or Microsoft?

Vishal Prakash Shah- The difference lies in control, flexibility, and cost-efficiency. Global platforms like Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 are designed for large enterprises — they charge uniformly for every mailbox, regardless of its usage level, and the data is entirely stored and controlled on their servers.

In contrast, the BLACKbox Hybrid Email System gives MSMEs the power of selective cloud adoption. Instead of all-or-nothing cloud dependency, businesses can decide who needs what level of service. Critical users get cloud mailboxes with all enterprise-grade features, while others get BLACKbox hosted, secured mailboxes — all under one email domain identity.

Most importantly, the cost-benefit is undeniable — companies can save more than 70% their yearly subscription cost, which is significant for MSMEs. It is a Made-in-India alternative that offers enterprise reliability without global dependency, aligning with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

IT Voice- SMEs often struggle with high software licensing and cloud service costs. How does Synersoft help them achieve affordability without compromising on performance or security?

Vishal Prakash Shah- We believe affordability should not mean compromise. Our goal has always been to deliver enterprise-level IT functionality at a fraction of the traditional cost.

BLACKbox achieves this through a consolidated architecture — it combines storage, backup, data protection, access control, endpoint security, and DLP in a single hardware unit. MSMEs don’t need to purchase multiple tools or servers. This cuts both capital expenditure and ongoing operational costs drastically.

Additionally, the BLACKbox OneCloud offering has been a game changer. It extends the capabilities of BLACKbox to the cloud in a hybrid mode — ensuring data centralization, compliance, and disaster recovery while retaining cost control. Instead of fully migrating to expensive cloud environments, MSMEs can selectively back up or sync their critical data to OneCloud, achieving compliance and business continuity in a financially viable way.

We also enable MSMEs to avail benefits under government schemes like the Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme (CLCSS), which makes technology adoption even more affordable. This integrated approach makes BLACKbox one of the most cost-efficient IT platforms for small businesses in India.

IT Voice- How does BLACKbox ensure data preservation and business continuity for SMEs in an era where cyber threats and data loss are major concerns?

Vishal Prakash Shah- The core philosophy of BLACKbox revolves around data centralization and protection. Our patented technology ensures that all digital assets — from designs, drawings, and documents to HR information, financial data, and customer records — are securely stored, backed up, and shielded from accidental or malicious loss.

The system enforces policies on data flow, prevents unauthorized copying to external devices, and provides plan B against ransomware, malware infection, and mitigate insider threats by zero trust policy enforcement.

For business continuity, we’ve integrated disaster recovery mechanisms through BLACKbox OneCloud. In case of fire, flood, or system failure, MSMEs can restore their operations quickly from cloud backups, minimizing downtime.

The design philosophy is simple: data should always be recoverable, protected, and compliant. With BLACKbox, MSMEs don’t just get cybersecurity tools — they get an assurance of operational continuity and peace of mind.

IT Voice- What are the main challenges you face in driving technology adoption among SMEs, and how does Synersoft simplify the digital transformation journey for them?

Vishal Prakash Shah- The biggest challenge isn’t technology — it’s mindset. MSMEs often associate technology adoption with high cost, disruption, or complexity. Many of them have limited IT expertise and prefer ad-hoc arrangements that seem cheaper upfront but cost more in the long run.

We address this by simplifying everything. BLACKbox is plug-and-play — no complex configuration, no dedicated IT staff required. We design our systems so that business owners can operate them confidently. Our customer education initiatives, like the BLACKbox Knowledge Center and the BLACKbox Certification Academy, play a major role in this transformation.

The Certification Academy offers structured, practical learning programs that train MSME employees to manage their IT, data security, and compliance independently. It’s not just product training — it’s capacity building for the sector.

Through continuous engagement, webinars, and support, we help MSMEs move from reactive IT management to a proactive, standardized, and secure digital framework.

IT Voice- Can you share how your strategic alliances or investor partnerships have strengthened Synersoft’s growth and helped scale BLACKbox in the Indian market?

Vishal Prakash Shah- Our growth has been largely organic and customer-driven. However, our alliances — both technical and strategic — have been pivotal in scaling. We’ve collaborated with OEM partners for optimized hardware manufacturing, with cybersecurity experts for evolving threat protection, and with financial institutions to enable installment-based purchase models for MSMEs.

These alliances have allowed us to extend reach without compromising affordability. Moreover, our partnerships with professional training institutions and government bodies help us stay aligned with national initiatives like Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, ensuring that our work contributes to broader economic objectives.

We continue to explore collaborations that enhance the MSME ecosystem — not just in technology, but in skills development and process standardization.

IT Voice- What new technologies or features can we expect from Synersoft in the coming years, especially to empower SMEs with smarter IT and cloud solutions?

Vishal Prakash Shah- We are continuously evolving BLACKbox as a platform. The upcoming roadmap includes deeper cloud integration through OneCloud, enabling seamless synchronization between on-premises and cloud data repositories.

We’re also enhancing analytics capabilities to provide MSMEs with actionable insights into their digital infrastructure — from storage utilization and performance to compliance readiness. The next phase of BLACKbox will focus on automation, compliance dashboards, and intelligent monitoring to make IT management even simpler for non-technical users.

We are also expanding the BLACKbox Certification Academy to help more MSMEs train their staff on cybersecurity, digital discipline, and compliance literacy. In short, our future roadmap aims to make secure, intelligent, and compliant IT systems accessible to every MSME in India.

IT Voice- As a technology leader, what is your long-term vision for Indian SMEs in the digital ecosystem, and how do you see Synersoft contributing to that transformation?

Vishal Prakash Shah- We envision an India where every MSME — no matter its size or location — operates with digital maturity, security, and confidence comparable to large enterprises.

For too long, MSMEs have been known for their resilience and innovation but not for their digital readiness. That’s changing now. The next decade will belong to digitally empowered small enterprises that protect their intellectual property, standardize their processes, and align with global compliance frameworks.

Synersoft’s mission is to make that transformation achievable — by providing MSMEs with practical, affordable, and scalable digital infrastructure through BLACKbox. Our work with UnitedSMEs complements this vision by helping them with non-technical growth enablers like skill development, recruitment, and marketing.

Ultimately, we want to ensure that no MSME is left behind in the digital revolution — and that they compete not just locally, but globally, with confidence and compliance.
