Origin OS 6 Based on Android 16 Set to Launch in India for iQOO Smartphones

iQOO India CEO Nipun Marya has officially announced that Origin OS 6, built on the latest Android 16, will soon be launched in India for iQOO smartphones. This marks a shift from the current Funtouch OS 15, based on Android 15, which is used by Vivo and iQOO devices in the country. The update aims to unify the user interface across global markets, bringing the same experience found on Chinese variants to Indian users.

Origin OS 6 is currently featured on Vivo’s Chinese smartphones, and its rollout in India will initially target premium devices, with mid-range and budget models expected to receive the update later. While the exact update schedule for existing iQOO and Vivo smartphones in India remains unclear, the announcement confirms the brand’s plan to standardize its interface.

Ahead of the announcement, hints of the transition surfaced when the official Funtouch OS India X (formerly Twitter) profile was renamed to OriginOS (@FuntouchOS_IN), signaling the upcoming change. Additionally, discussions on Reddit suggested that the Android 16-based Origin OS 6 update would arrive soon, aligning with the CEO’s post.

Vivo is also preparing to launch Origin OS 6 in China on October 10, with the upcoming Vivo X300 and X300 Pro expected to ship with the new Android 16-based skin. The update promises a refined user experience and improved performance, particularly for Vivo and iQOO’s flagship offerings.

For Indian users, the transition to Origin OS 6 represents a step toward a more consistent and modern interface, enhancing device functionality while aligning the brand’s global ecosystem. Users can expect a gradual rollout, beginning with higher-end devices before reaching the broader range of smartphones.
