Truecaller has confirmed that it will discontinue its popular Call Recording feature for iPhone users, sparking widespread discussion on social media. Many iOS users woke up to in-app notifications informing them that the feature will be phased out, with a cutoff date set for September 30, 2025.
Why the Change?
Truecaller has not explicitly stated the reason for removing the feature on iOS. However, the timing coincides with Apple introducing its own call recording feature in iOS. The change could be related to technical limitations, privacy regulations, or Apple’s own call recording framework, which may have made third-party solutions less relevant or more difficult to maintain.
Good News for Existing Recordings
If you have important calls saved on Truecaller, there’s no need to panic. The company is giving users two months’ notice to download their recordings before the service is removed. You will still be able to access and save these recordings after September 30, but no new recordings will be created.
How to Save Your Truecaller Call Recordings on iPhone
Truecaller has provided two methods for iPhone users to back up their call recordings:
Method 1: Switch to iCloud Storage
You can configure Truecaller to save future recordings directly to iCloud before the feature is discontinued.
-
Open the Truecaller app.
-
Go to the Record tab.
-
Tap the Settings icon (gear symbol).
-
Select Storage Preference.
-
Choose iCloud Storage.
If you don’t see the iCloud option, you may need to enable it:
-
Go to iPhone Settings → tap your name → iCloud → iCloud Drive → enable Truecaller.
This ensures any recordings you make until the cutoff date are automatically backed up online.
Method 2: Save Recordings Manually
If you prefer to save recordings individually:
-
Open the Truecaller app.
-
Go to the Record tab.
-
Swipe left on the recording you want to save.
-
Tap the Share/Export icon (square with upward arrow).
-
Choose Save to Files to store the audio locally, or share directly to Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud Drive, Mail, or Messages.
Repeat this for each recording you wish to keep.
Impact on Users
The removal of call recording will be a disappointment for many iPhone users who relied on Truecaller for customer support records, interview calls, or personal documentation. While Apple’s native call recording feature may offer an alternative, it remains to be seen whether it will provide the same flexibility and convenience that Truecaller’s tool offered.
For now, iOS users have until September 30, 2025 to secure their important recordings. After that date, the feature will be history on iPhones — marking the end of an era for Truecaller’s iOS offering.
