Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has announced the expansion of the Sanchar Saathi mobile app to Hindi and 21 regional languages, enhancing its accessibility across India’s diverse linguistic landscape. This strategic move aims to strengthen the fight against telecom-related cyber fraud and ensure that citizens from all regions can easily use the app’s features.
Launched in January 2025, the app has already crossed 46 lakh downloads, reflecting its growing popularity. Sanchar Saathi empowers mobile users with tools to protect themselves from scams and other telecom-related crimes.
Key features of the Sanchar Saathi app include:
-
Reporting suspicious communications: Users can report fraudulent calls and text messages.
-
Tracing or blocking lost/stolen phones: Prevents misuse of stolen devices by enabling users to trace or block them.
-
Checking unauthorized connections: Allows users to verify whether their identity has been misused to obtain illegal mobile connections.
The government’s aim with Sanchar Saathi is multi-fold. Offering the app in multiple Indian languages ensures greater accessibility and promotes digital inclusion. It also plays a crucial role in reducing cyber frauds such as phishing and identity theft by providing citizens with practical, easy-to-use security tools. By enabling individuals to take preventive measures themselves, the app empowers citizens and reduces dependence on lengthy official procedures.
Moreover, Sanchar Saathi aligns with India’s national digital security goals, supporting the vision of a safe and secure telecom ecosystem. The expansion is expected to particularly benefit rural and semi-urban communities, where awareness and resources to combat telecom fraud are often limited.
With its multilingual support, Sanchar Saathi is set to become an even more powerful ally in India’s fight against telecom scams, reinforcing both security and trust in the nation’s digital communications network.
