Fear and uncertainty grip Infosys trainees as the IT giant lays off around 400 employees following repeated evaluation test failures. On February 7, many young professionals were asked to vacate the Mysuru campus immediately, leaving them scrambling for transport and struggling to process the devastating news.
Harsh Reality of Infosys Trainee Evaluations
For many trainees, the journey to Infosys had been a long one—some joined nearly two and a half years after graduation, only to face termination within months. A trainee from Madhya Pradesh, tears streaming down her face, reportedly pleaded with Infosys officials, asking to stay the night, as she had nowhere to go. However, she and others were firmly told: “You are no longer part of the company. Vacate the premises by 6 PM.”
Trainees who spoke on the condition of anonymity alleged that the eligibility criteria for the 2024 batch had been made extremely stringent, making it harder for them to clear the evaluation tests.
Mass Layoffs Leave Hundreds Struggling
On February 14, about 450 trainees will take their third and final attempt at the evaluation test. The outcome will determine how many of them will retain their jobs, adding to the growing anxiety.
For those already laid off, the impact has been severe. Many scrambled to find taxis and buses to return home, fearing how to break the news to their families. The layoffs have left them without financial security, raising concerns over the future of fresh graduates in India’s IT industry.
Growing Concerns Over Infosys Hiring Practices
The layoffs have sparked debate over Infosys’ hiring policies, with many questioning why so many freshers were onboarded only to be let go soon after. Reports suggest that thousands of fresh graduates were hired in 2022, but delays in onboarding forced many to wait over two years before finally joining—only to face termination within months.
As Infosys faces backlash, industry experts argue that companies must adopt fairer evaluation systems and provide adequate training rather than abruptly terminating employees. With uncertainty looming over the February 14 test results, many trainees remain in fear of losing their jobs, leaving their careers hanging in the balance.
