Indian Prime minister, Shri Narendra Modi, laid the foundation stone of three semiconductor projects worth about Rs. 1.25 lakh crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the ‘India’s Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat’ program and inaugurated three semiconductor projects worth approximately Rs 1.25 lakh crores via video conferencing. These projects include a semiconductor fabrication facility in the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR), Gujarat, and outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facilities in Morigaon, Assam, and Sanand, Gujarat.

During his address, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the significance of the occasion, considering the foundation stones laid for these major semiconductor manufacturing projects. He emphasized that these projects mark a significant step towards India’s future, aiming to establish the nation as a semiconductor hub. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the citizens and acknowledged the virtual presence of semiconductor industry players from Taiwan, underscoring the importance of the initiatives undertaken.

Prime Minister Modi noted the widespread participation in the event, with over 60,000 colleges, universities, and educational institutes being connected. He described the program as a manifestation of the aspirations of the youth, who are essential stakeholders in India’s future. Stressing the importance of self-reliance and India’s role in the global supply chain, he highlighted the transformative potential of a confident and empowered youth.

 

Recognizing the centrality of electronic chips in the modern era, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the role of indigenous chip manufacturing in fostering self-reliance and modernization. He highlighted India’s transition towards Industry 4.0 and emphasized the need to seize opportunities in the semiconductor sector. Prime Minister Modi commended the rapid progress made in the semiconductor field, from the announcement of the semiconductor mission to the laying of foundation stones for three projects within a short span.

Prime Minister Modi underscored the global significance of semiconductor manufacturing and India’s determination to contribute to a reliable supply chain, especially in the aftermath of disruptions caused by the pandemic. He outlined India’s strategic advantages and future plans for commercial production in the semiconductor sector, emphasizing the importance of policy decisions and simplification of laws to foster growth.

Highlighting India’s achievements in electronics and hardware manufacturing, Prime Minister Modi mentioned initiatives such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes and electronic clusters. He emphasized India’s position as the world’s second-largest mobile manufacturer and highlighted initiatives in emerging technologies like quantum computing and artificial intelligence.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the transformative potential of semiconductor research for the youth and its wide-ranging applications across industries. He acknowledged India’s talent in chip design and manufacturing, emphasizing the completion of the talent ecosystem in the semiconductor sector.

In conclusion, Prime Minister Modi urged everyone to contribute to India’s progress and assured support for the nation’s future. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Union Ministers and industry leaders, reflecting the collaborative effort towards India’s semiconductor ambitions.
