Sony is a reputed name of technology and performance in camera industry. No doubt, the smartphones launched by the company also showcase this feature with full strength. The tradition is continued when latest Sony Xpria XZ boasts of triple image sensing technology that includes an Exmor sensor combined with Predictive Hybrid AF, laser autofocus and RGBC infrared sensor.
For your wonder, this smartphone is the world’s first one with 5-axis video stabilization. It can easily withstand five types of shakes while taking pictures and videos as well. With an attractive design, Sony Xperia XZ is priced at Rs. 49,900. Let’s go through the review of the model.
In the sense of appearance and feel, Xperia XZ is mostly similar to the previous Sonysmartphones. It features a gently rounded form factor. You get the curved metal sides with a unibody design. With a metallic back having the Xperia branding in the center, its rear panel houses a 23MP camera with LED flash at the top left corner.
Dual SIM functionality
At the bottom of the smartphone there is a USB-Type C port and at the top there is a 3.5 mm audio jack. On the right side, there are poser button, volume rocker and camera button. On the left edge, here is a SIM/micro card tray. Sony Xperia supports dual SIM functionality, one micro and one neon SIMs. As an expansion slot, here is a microSIM slot doubling up. There is a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power.
With Sony Xperia, you get two speakers and both at the front (one above the display and the next below it). It also carries a 13MP front-facing snapper with the usual array of sensors. The front panel is slightly curved towards the edges, complementing the loop design of the smartphone.
Now, come to the display factor, the smartphone features a 5.2-inch Full HD display of 1080*1920 pixel resolution with Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The experts have found the display to be quite good with sharp color reproduction and good sunlight visibility. And if we talk about other features like touch response and no pixellration, the smartphone meets all our expectations.
Performance and battery life
The smartphone is powered by a 2.1515GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor clubbed with a 3GB RAM. Internal storage stands at 64GB and can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD cards. It can smartly handle playing the heavy games and playing videos on loop.
Sony Xperia XZ comes with a 2,900mAh battery which, during our time with the device, managed to last a day of average use including playing games and browsing social media. Here, you get the “Stamina” and “Ultra Stamina” modes which restrict the performance for improved battery life.
This phone has a 23 MP rear camera with triple image sensing technology that includes an Exmor sensor combined with Predictive Hybrid AF, laser autofocus and RGBC infrared sensor. On the front, there’s a 13MP camera (with ISO range of up to 6400) for better low-light photography. Both front and rear cameras have 5-axis video stabilization for smooth videos.
Furthermore, the camera app provides some advanced features with manual setting such as, focus control and shutter speed, and they are quite easy to use. For a better photography experience, Sony Xperia XZ has plug-in apps such as AR effect, Sound Photo and Timeshift video, among others. Quite similar to Xperia X, Xperia XZ can perform the photographic functions very quickly. For starting the camera app, focus on the subject and shoot the image, it takes only 0.6 seconds.
Now the video recording, Xperia XZ can record 4K videos, but here is a problem, you need to go for a little setting in the camera app for this. And due to the phone getting heated up during video recording, you might want to stick with Full HD recording anyway.
