Valve, the international maker of video and console-based games is set to list more games on its digital distribution platform, Steam, through its crowd sourcing initiative. As per company announcements, it is set to have at least eight more indie games added to the list soon. They will be launched along with three software titles, as was the case with the previously launched Greenlight titles. These games will be released independently by their own developers in the coming weeks, or months.

The games that will be released soon are as follows: Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller, Day One: Garry’s Incident, Guncraft, Homesick, In Verbis Virtus, Super Motherload, Vector and Verdun. Software titles greenlit are Actual Multiple Monitors, FL Studio and Leadwerks 3: Steam Edition.

Last year, the company had launched the Greenlight forum in August, which allowed developers and publishers to post information and media about their game. The move was made in an effort to encourage the Community so the game could be released on Steam.

The platform itself piggybacks on Steam Workshop’s flexible system that organises content and lets customers rate and leave feedback. Besides the fact that this platform serves as a clearing house for game submissions, Greenlight also ensures that new games are given an added level of exposure. Also, this is an opportunity to ensure that the users are able to directly connect with potential buyers and fans.

However, there were issues around the platform when small developers found that they would have to face multiple glitches when getting on the Steam platform. They would get either “yes” or “no” for an answer, without any explanation. Greenlight looks to help the developers who submit videos, demos, screenshots etc and let the community decide if the game is worth being on Steam.
