This is what Xiaomi has to say on Redmi Note 4 catching fire in user’s pocket

Earlier this week, there were reports of a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 smartphone catching fire. Bhavana Suryakiran, a resident of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, claimed that Redmi Note 4 caught fire in his pocket. He is said to be riding his bike then. He further claimed that he had tough time extinguishing the fire despite pouring water on his clothes.
Now, Xiaomi has released an official statement on the incident. In the statement, the company says, “Upon first impressions of the damaged device, we can conclude that extreme external force was applied to the device, which led to the back cover and battery being bent and screen getting damaged. A detailed investigation has been launched to understand the exact cause of the damage.”
The incident was first reported by a Telugu news website Sakshi.com. According to the news report, Suryakiran bought the smartphone from Flipkart around 20 days back. The report further said that he is planning to take Xiaomi to court for selling defective smartphones and will also ask for a compensation for his injuries.
In July this year, a Redmi Note 4 buyer from Bengaluru also claimed that his smartphone caught fire in a Bengaluru store. The alleged mishap was captured on CCTV camera of the store.
As per the video spotted by PhoneRadar, the smartphone can be seen catching fire. The Bengaluru resident Arjun purchased Redmi Note 4 smartphone from Poorvika Mobile Store in the city. Later, he went to a local shop to get SIM inserted in the device. When the salesman of the shop tried to open the SIM slot, the smartphone reportedly burst into flames. Though the phone was burnt completely, no injuries were reported.
