Teradata, Cisco working to make cities more connected

Big Data firm Teradata on Tuesday announced that it is working with Cisco to help cities become smarter and more connected by providing a digital transformation solution for integrated data exchange.
Combining the merits of Cisco’s Internet of Things (IoT) platform “Cisco Kinetic for Cities” with the Teradata Analytics Platform, the two leaders would provide tools that cities need to improve efficiency, enhance public safety, deliver better citizen services and create new revenue streams.
“Insights culled by analytics from data thrown up by embedded and mobile devices — the IoT — come with minimal human intervention and is that much ‘cleaner’. Such uncorrupted data can be the foundation to deliver improved quality services of all kinds,” Souma Das, Managing Director, Teradata India, said in a statement.
Using “Cisco Kinetic for Cities” platform, cities can gather, aggregate and normalise information from disparate and siloed city applications, including but not limited to traffic, lighting and parking.
“With the ‘Cisco Kinetic for Cities’ platform, we aim to help cities think holistically about their city infrastructure investments and the value of the data captured by their connected assets,” Anil Menon, Global President for Smart+Connected Communities at Cisco, said in a statement.
“Using Teradata’s analytics, customers can leverage the information to plan, monetise and broaden economic development efforts to keep cities sustainable and resilient,” Menon added.
Combining this real-time sensor data with other city information, such as data from payment systems, citizen sentiment and analytic applications, Teradata will be able to deliver prescriptive and predictive analytics, as well as easy-to-comprehend visualisations.
