Samsung reportedly working on four-sided curved displays

As if the new ‘Infinity Display’ on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ is not enough, a new report has now stated that Samsung has already started working on a four-sided curved display for its future handsets. This means that the display, most likely to be a Super AMOLED panel, will reach up to all four sides of the smartphone.
The report by ETNews website claims that the new display would result in a massive 98% screen-to-body ratio. For reference, Xiaomi Mi Mix smartphone has a 92% screen-to-body ratio. The South Korean tech giant is said to showcase the handset as soon as next year.
It has also been mentioned that there could be some issues in the lamination process of manufacturing the four-sided curved display. Issues such as screen corners unable to register a touch input are also possible.
Although Samsung is said to have started working on the display technology, it could be quite some time before we will finally see a handset sporting such a display.
Earlier this month — DisplayMate — a website that claims to be the industry standard for measuring the quality of digital displays, rated the display of the newly-launched Galaxy S8 with an ‘A+’.
The display calibration and testing website says that “the Galaxy S8 is the first in a new generation of OLED Smartphones that have a full screen display design. It is the most innovative and high performance smartphone display that we have ever lab tested, earning DisplayMate’s highest ever A+ grade.”
Samsung is being also reported to commence working on the 7th-gen OLED displays soon.
It has also been mentioned that the company’s new display panels will be made in the new A4 production line starting second quarter this year. The new display will have 800ppi pixel density. For reference, the Galaxy S8 has over 530ppi.
