Samsung Galaxy S8 series named ‘Best Smartphones’ at MWC Shanghai

Samsung’s flagship smartphones launched earlier this year, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ received the title of the ‘Best Smartphones’ by the GSMA, a global body including mobile carriers, at the ongoing MWC Shanghai 2017 conference.

The body, as mentioned by the Korean Herald, praised the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+’s ‘unique design’ and ‘distinctive features’. The handsets, unlike previous years, ditched the MWC 2017 conference and were launched a month later in New York. The duo is now available in all the major markets in the world.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ entered the Indian shores in April this year priced at Rs 57,900 (MOP) and Rs 64,900 (MOP) respectively. One of the highlights of the smartphones are their extended edge-to-edge curved displays, something that the company calls as the ‘Infinity display’. When watched in landscape mode, 21:9 movies fill the Galaxy S8’s 18.5:9 display, while the black bars above and below the picture are minimized, increasing the viewing area by 36%, compared to the Galaxy S7, said the company at the time of the launch.

While the Galaxy S8 comes with a 5.8-inch QuadHD+ (2960×1440) ‘Infinity Display’ with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and 570ppi pixel density, its bigger sibling features a 6.2-inch QuadHD+ (2960×1440) ‘Infinity Display’ with 529ppi pixel density.

Both are powered by an octa-core Exynos Series 9 processor along with 4GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage. The US model comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processors.

They also include the same 12MP dual-pixel camera with f/1.7 aperture and OIS that was used in the Galaxy S7. There is an upgraded front-facing 8MP autofocus camera with f/1.7 aperture. The Galaxy S8+ has the same set of specifications except for a larger battery.
