Samsung Galaxy S8 has the best smartphone display, claims DisplayMate

Samsung’s newest flagship smartphone – Galaxy S8 has been awarded a rating of A+ by DisplayMate, a website that claims to be the industry standard for measuring the quality of digital displays.

The display calibration and testing website says that “the Galaxy S8 is the first in a new generation of OLED Smartphones that have a full screen display design. It is the most innovative and high performance smartphone display that we have ever lab tested, earning DisplayMate’s highest ever A+ grade.”

The website further says that the Samsung Galaxy S8’s QuadHD+ AMOLED display with Corning Glass 5 coating is able to reproduce videos with same color accuracy and wide colour gamut, as those produced by HDR-capable TVs. According to DisplayMate, the Galaxy S8’s display comes with improved screen brightness, wider colour gamut, better viewing angles, enhanced curved edge display, better Always-on display, improved image processor, performance modes and automatic brightness control.

What’s particularly interesting about the Galaxy S8’s display is its wider aspect ratio of 18.5:9. The QuadHD+ screen has a resolution of 1440×2960 pixels and a pixel density of 570ppi. Another new feature is the option to select different screen modes and colour gamuts.

During the smartphones’ launch, Samsung also stressed upon the fact that the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ are the first smartphones that come with Mobile HDR Premium certification by UHD alliance.

DisplayMate claims that with this feature, the Galaxy S8 has a Digital Cinema DCI-P3 Wide Color Gamut, along with deeper blacks and better contrast ratio.
To be able to better adjust the screen brightness, Galaxy S8 includes a dual ambient light sensor, one at the front and one at the back. The sensors are used to adjust the screen brightness based on the front and back lightning.
