Samsung Galaxy S5 Now Available In India

s5-back-1Samsung’s much-hyped flagship device, the Galaxy S5 has finally arrived in India. Samsung had earlier opened online pre-bookings for the Galaxy S5 smartphone via the Samsung India e-store and Infibeam. The initial booking amount was Rs 1,500, which will be deducted from the handset’s price. The device is now available for grabs via online megastore Flipkart at a best buy price of Rs 51,449.

The much hyped Samsung Galaxy 5 hitting retails here in India is however not actually the real deal. While the global version of Galaxy S5 is powered by a Snapdragon 801 processor, fans here in India will have to contend with an Exynos 5422 processor. Although the Exynos version of Galaxy S5 is as fast as the Snapdragon version in theory, a careful peek into it’s processor abilities, and you will know the difference.

The Exynos 5422 processor runs 8 cores wherein individual cores can run simultaneously when needed, unlike the 8-core processor in S5’s predecessor, the Galaxy S4. The 8 cores in the former are divided into two clusters: one cluster using the A15 ARM architecture, while the other based on A7 ARM architecture providing the mainstream performance. The A15 cores in Exynos 5422 run at 1.9GHz and the A7 cores run at 1.3GHz. The Snapdragon 801 processor in the global version on the other hand consists of four high-performance cores running at 2.46 GHz.

Meanwhile, even the graphics chips in the two versions are different with the Snapdragon version having the Adreno 330 chip while the Exynos one having Mali-T628. A number of benchmarks carried out on both devices by the Times of India reveal that in terms of general performance, the Exynos version of Galaxy S5 is theoretically as fast as the Snapdragon version. The graphics tests however reveal a different story with the Snapdragon version being the better of the two.
