Reliance Jio 4G feature phone to launch soon, specifications tipped

The Indian telecom operator Reliance Jio is said to be planning to launch 4G enabled feature phones priced between Rs 999 and Rs 1,500. A report has surfaced online suggesting that the company has started production of the phone.

According to a report by 91Mobiles, Reliance Jio’s feature phone has gone under production and will be available in the market soon. The report also offers some details about the specifications of the device. The Jio feature phone will sport a 2.4-inch display and will be powered by Spreadtrum and Qualcomm processors. It’s worth mentioning that Qualcomm launched its 205 processor design for feature phones and Reliance Jio is a key partner for the same. So, it is quite likely that the phone will be powered by the same Qualcomm processor. Other than this, the device will offer 4G VoLTE support.

The report also revealed that phone will offer 512MB of RAM and 4GB internal storage, which can be expanded further by adding microSD card. It will feature a 2MP rear camera and a VGA front camera for selfies. The device will come with all the Jio apps pre-installed. Along with this, the device is also expected to come with Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth and GPS features.

The report also states that initially the company will be selling the device at subsidised price to increase traction and the number of Jio subscribers.

In January this year, a user named @rajathkumarkr had shared the image of what is claimed to be the upcoming Reliance Jio’s feature phone. The image shows how the alleged feature phone supporting 4g VoLTE may look like.

The smartphone seen in the image has four buttons on top with ‘Jio’. The buttons seem to give one click access to MyJio, JioTV, JioCinema and JioMusic applications. There is also an alphanumeric keyboard along with a home button placed just below the ‘Jio’ keys.
