Panasonic launches 4K OLED TVs with HDR10+ support at CES 2018

The 2018 CES has special significance for Japanese consumer electronics giant Panasonic as this year marks the 100th anniversary of its founding. And this year, at CES, Panasonic is betting on company’s future vision that will pave way for the future.

As part of the launches at CES 2018, Panasonic has showcased the new line up of OLED televisions, comprising four new models across two ranges, supporting HDR10+ dynamic metadata technology.

The two ranges — the FZ950 and FZ800 — come in both 65-inch and 55-inch screen sizes. The former is a more premium of the two and comes with ‘Tuned by Technics’ Dynamic Blade Speaker. This speaker has 8 drivers in total, including four larger woofers, four squawkers and two tweeters

The two models boast of company’s proprietary HCX 4K video processor and latest generation HDR OLED panels. The company claims that these TVs deliver the most accurate high dynamic range (HDR) TV pictures ever, along with incredible blacks. The new OLED TVs feature an Absolute Black Filter, which helps in delivering the most accurate black levels, claims the company. This is done by absorbing ambient light to eliminate reflections – especially in brightly lit rooms.

Under the hood, HCX processor, powering the Panasonic TVs, now comes with ‘Dynamic LUT (Look Up Table)’ system that is used extensively in professional post-production and broadcast circles in Hollywood and beyond to ensure color accuracy. Also, Panasonic has extended the range and reduced the interval between calibration steps at the darkest end of the RGB and gamma scales. This can be adjusted by the user via Panasonic’s Color Management System.

Furthermore, these Panasonic TVs, which support HDR10+ dynamic metadata technology, will be able to stream the entire Amazon Prime Video HDR library in HDR10+. There is no confirmation on either the price or the availability of the TVs yet and we’ll update you about the same.
