NEC Establishes Open Source Software Technology Centre In India
NEC Corporation’s India arm today announced its OSS Technology Centre, an organization dedicated to technical support related to the use of open source software (OSS).
The new organization will begin operations on July 1, with approximately 50 staff. The staff includes experienced OSS engineers who are well-versed in OSS solution architecture, as well as essential software development and support capabilities.
“The OSS Technology Centre aims to strengthen the organizational structure for supporting global enterprises in building systems based on OSS, to reinforce collaboration with international OSS vendors and to provide rapid technical support to users who construct systems operated globally using OSS,” remarked the company.
The new unit will carry out development of new network functions related to Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and application platform functions such as container and Platform as a Service (PaaS), all of which are part of the OSS Technology Centre’s OpenStack-based development activities.
“NEC and NTI will leverage the newly established OSS Technology Centre to provide rapid support to users carrying out construction of OSS-based systems on a global scale,” said Nobuhiko Kishinoue, general manager of Cloud Platform Division, NEC Corporation.
“Key industry verticals and solutions that NEC is addressing include distribution and logistics, datacomm & carrier solutions, enterprise solutions, finance, retail, government & public services and smart energy – all of which are growth areas. As the strategic subsidiary of NEC in India, we want to leverage our strengths to implement OSS components as a part of NEC products, analyse OSS source code, identify bugs and contribute fixes to OSS community and be the worldwide technical support team for NEC products built around OSS,” said Anil Gupta, MD & CEO, NEC Technologies India.
