Motorola Moto Z2 Play smartphone with Snapdragon 626 SoC, Moto Mods support launched in US

Lenovo-owned Motorola has finally launched its much-teased Moto Z2 Play smartphone in USA. Successor to last year’s Moto Z Play, the modular smartphone has a starting price of $499 and will go on sale this summer in the country. Moto Z2 Play will also launch in India soon. Along with the smartphone, the company has launched some new mods too. Moto Z2 Play will be available in Lunar Grey and Fine Gold colour options.

Moto Z2 Play flaunts a metal unibody design and is sleeker as compared to its predecessor. The smartphone has round edges and a physical Home button which also doubles up as a fingerprint sensor. The volume rocker and power button are placed on the right side, while the SIM card tray sits on the left. A USB Type-C charging port is placed at the bottom and a 3.5mm audio jack is at the top. The rear panel houses the camera module and magnetic pins that are used to connect Moto Mods with the smartphone.

The Z2 Play has a 5.5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display of 1080×1920 pixel resolution. The display is made scratch resistant with a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. Running Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box, the smartphone is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Qulacomm Snapdragon 626 processor paired with 3GB/4GB of RAM. It offers 32GB/64GB of internal storage, with support for microSD cards.

Talking about the camera, the Z2 Play features a 12MP rear camera with laser and dual auto-focus, as well as LED flash. There’s also a 5MP front camera with Moto’s first dual CCT flash for selfies and video calling. The smartphone offers 4G VoLTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB Type-C as connectivity options. It is backed by a 3,000mAh battery, which is a bit smaller when compared to the 3,510mAh battery of the Z Play.

Along with the Moto Z2 Play, Motorola launched a few Moto Mods as well. These include Moto Power Pack, which can add an extra 2,000mAh battery capacity to the smartphone. It comes in Black and White colour options and claims to offer 16 hours of battery backup. It is priced at $49.99 and will be available in the US.

The Turbo Power Pack Moto Mod is priced at at $79.99. It adds an additional 3,490mAh battery capacity to the smartphone. The mod supports 30W TurboPower and can charge up to 50% in 20 minutes.
