Motorola Moto Z2 Play smartphone with Snapdragon 626 SoC, 4GB RAM launched at Rs 27,999

Just eight days after the US launch, Motorola has brought its Moto Z2 Play smartphone to India. Launched at a price of Rs 27,999, the smartphone is the successor to last year’s Moto Z Play. Building upon the modular platform of the Moto Z line-up, the Moto Z2 Play has been launched alongside a handful of Moto Mods such as the Turbo Power pack, JBL SoundBoost 2 and Moto Gamepad. The smartphone comes in two colours – Lunar Grey and Fine Gold. It will go on sale on Flipkart (online exclusive) and in retail stores across the country from June 15. Pre-orders for the smartphone are live from today and will continue till June 14.
Motorola has also announced a handful of offers for those who plan on buying the Moto Z2 Play. Customers will get a free ‘armor pack’ that comes with a metal shell, one carbon fibre style shell shell and a selfie stick. They can get the smartphone by just paying Rs 2,000 and paying the remainder of the price through EMIs with 0% interest.
Moto Z2 Play boasts a full metal unibody design and is much sleeker than its predecessor. It has rounded edges and a fingerprint sensor on the front below the display. The volume keys and power button are placed on the right, while the hybrid SIM/microSD card tray is on the top. The bottom has a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm audio jack. The rear is home to a protruding 12MP camera module (with dual-tone dual-LED flash) and magnetic pins that are used to connect Moto Mods.
The Moto Z2 Play has a 5.5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display of 1080×1920 pixel resolution, secured with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. It’s powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The device also supports microSD cards for storage expansion. Running Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box, the Z2 Play offers all modern connectivity options such as 4G VoLTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB Type-C.
As mentioned before, Moto Z2 Play has a 12MP rear camera with phase detection and laser autofocus. The camera can record 4K resolution videos as well. At the front, there’s a 5MP selfie shooter with a two-tone dual-LED flash. The smartphone is backed by a 3,000mAh battery, which is less than the 3,510mAh battery of the Moto Z Play.
Talking about the Moto Mods, the Power Pack adds an extra 2,000mAh battery capacity to the smartphone instantly. The company claims it provides at least 16 hours of extra backup. Then there’s the Turbo Power pack, which comes with a 3,490mAh extra battery and supports 30W TurboPower charging that can juice up the battery up to 50% in just 20 minutes. Apart from that, there’s also a new Style Shell that includes built-in wireless charging functionality; and a Gamepad that includes dual control sticks for a better smartphone gaming experience. Lastly, the JBL SoundBoost 2 wireless speaker lets users have an immersive music-listening experience anywhere. With a built-in 1,000mAh battery and external charging support, it’s claimed to have a continuous music playback time of ten hours on a single charge.
All of the above mentioned Moto Mods will be launching later this year.
