Microsoft Working With Indian Government To Link Skype With The Aadhar ID
Microsoft and the Indian government are working together towards connecting Skype with the Aadhar database. This is with the aim to find out if the video calling service can be utilised for making authenticated calls with government bodies as well as others.
Microsoft’s president and chief legal officer, Brad Smith has stated that they are very excited and happy to have adopted the universal ID system. Microsoft is in the process of experimenting the usage of this technology and its integration with Skype.
The company stated that they are seeing Skype evolve in a manner that it will permit someone based at their home to authenticate themselves via the ID system through fingerprint or iris scan. They can then interact with that person or government agency, who will know that they are who they claim to be. This will also permit one to testify in a government proceeding as well as in obtaining a licence.
Mr Smith further stressed that this will bring in a lot of convenience in people’s lives and one need not travel a long way for their needs when they can do things in front of their computer.
