Microsoft Sells 1 Million Xbox One Units Within 24 Hours

imagesIn what can termed as a record of sorts, Microsoft has sold more than one million of its latest Xbox One gaming consoles within 24 hours of its availability. The latest edition of Xbox gaming console hit the shelves on Friday and the company managed to make sales on par with its closest competitor Sony’s PlayStation 4.

According to a statement issued by the company, the Xbox One was made available in 13 countries simultaneously. It has set record for first-day Xbox sales. It is worth mentioning here that Sony sold around one million PS4 units in about 24 hours, soon after it was launched last Friday. However, Sony’s gaming console was launched only in the US

and Canada, unlike Xbox One, which was launched in 13 countries simultaneously. The PS4 will expand its reach to other regions like Europe, Australia and South America, from 29 November.

Commenting on the success, Marc Whitten, Chief Product Officer of Xbox, said, ““We have the best community of gamers around the world, and this was on full display last night. The launch of Xbox One is truly Day One. Today is the beginning of the future of entertainment, and we could not be more proud to deliver Xbox One to fans around the world.”

The war between Microsoft’s and Sony’s gaming consoles is not new. With Xbox One, Microsoft is not just targeting the gamers but also a broader consumer base of TV fans and music lovers with its interactive entertainment features and media apps.

“We are working hard to create more Xbox One consoles,” said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of marketing and strategy at Xbox. The Xbox One is prices at $499, while Sony’s PS4 is priced at $399 in the United States.
