MediaTek launches Helio P25 processor for dual-camera smartphones

mediatek-logoMediaTek has added a new chipset to its line-up of mobile processors. Dubbed Helio P25, the new 16m SoC combines octa-core processing capabilities with MediaTek’s ‘Imagiq’ Image Signal Processor (ISP) technology, thus claiming to provide better imaging experience for dual-camera smartphones. The company claims that the Helio P25 is designed to offer premium quality imaging, high-end camera features and other innovative photography functionalities that take full advantage of today’s dual-camera smartphones.
With its enhanced image signal-processing (ISP) features, the new MediaTek Helio P25 promises to put advanced camera effects at users’ fingertips. These include shallow depth-of-field and high-performance auto exposure, which allow better images to be captured in all lighting conditions. The Helio P25 is said to offer up to 25% better power efficiency. The octa-core ARM Cortex-A53 chipset is clocked at up to 2.5GHz, claiming to deliver more power while still being energy efficient. On the graphics end, it benefits from the recent ARM Mali-T880 dual GPU clocked at up to 900MHz. “MediaTek Helio P25 paves the way for high-resolution and feature-rich smartphone cameras that enable amazing static shots and 4K and 2K videos. Supporting two cameras of up to 13MP each, the Helio P25 redefines expectations for mobile photography and our multimedia features like, MiraVision technology, which continuously enhance visual user-experiences,” remarked Jeffrey Ju, executive vice president and co-chief operating officer at MediaTek.
