‘Hidden’ camera features found in Android Oreo beta for Nokia 5

It looks like Nokia smartphones will soon get some new camera features. These features, spotted by Nokiamob website, are present in the Android Oreo beta version that recently opened up for Nokia 5. The beta version comes with a new camera app UI version 8.0200.20. Although there’s no major difference seen in the camera app as compared to previous version, some ‘hidden’ features have come up while examining the app’s APK package.
The APK package shows that the same Nokia Camera app version includes support for telephoto camera mode with 2 times the optical zoom. There is also a wide-angle mode in the app. There are no further details as to how the particular feature will work. What’s more is that the app version is spotted with icons for a different camera shutter speed and ISO – 1/500-1s and 100-2000 ISO.
These features are not yet live in the current version of Nokia Camera app. It is being assumed that while 1/500-1s shutter speed and 100-2000 ISO could be for the Nokia 5, there may be different levels for other handsets depending on their hardware capabilities.
There may be a possibility that HMD Global — in future Nokia smartphones — could be replacing the second monochrome sensor with a telephoto lens as the feature has shown up in the APK package.
If you want to become an Android Oreo beta tester, you should have a Nokia 5 smartphone. They would have to create an account and validate it by entering the handset’s IMEI number. Once the entire process is completed you will then get an OTA update after 12 hours of activation.
With Android 8.0 Oreo, the smartphone will get various features like Picture-in-Picture (PIP), Wide-gamut colour for apps, Background limits, notification channels, Adaptive icons, Companion device pairing, Keyboard navigation and more. The first to enter the Nokia Beta lab was the Nokia 8.
