Here’s why Apple iPhone 8 could surpass Galaxy S8 in sales

As two of the biggest smartphone manufacturers in the world, Samsung and Apple have millions of fans around the globe, and their product launches have the eyes of the world set upon them. Both companies will be going head-to-head this year with their flagship smartphones – Galaxy S8 and iPhone 8 (also known as iPhone ‘Edition’). But which of the two devices will manage to get sold in more numbers?
It seems that noted KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has an idea, as revealed in his latest investors note, obtained by 9to5 Mac website.
Kuo remarked that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 will witness a weaker demand than its predecessor – Galaxy S7 . He said that one of the reasons for this is that last year, Samsung just launched one flagship smartphone as the Galaxy Note 7 was withdrawn from the market due to faulty batteries. Another reason mentioned by Kuo is that the S8 (duo) will face fiercer competition from Apple, as the Cupertino-based tech firm will be launching as many as three smartphones this year.
He added that the Galaxy S8 lacks “sufficiently attractive selling points” given that its highlight is only a bigger display, and that the iPhone 8 or the iPhone ‘Edition’ with OLED display could be a “bigger draw for consumers”, as compared to the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus .
The Galaxy S8’s projected shipment is around 40-45 million units in 2017F, which is lower than that of the Galaxy S7’s 52 million units.
Kuo further said that the iPhone 8, besides OLED display, will also include wireless charging, new glass-based design and a new ‘functional’ area instead of the fingerprint sensor.
Interestingly, Samsung is rumoured to be getting closer to launching its foldable smartphone . The company will likely start producing prototype units of the handset in Q3 this year, as per ETNews website. Samsung will be making thousands of units that will be supplied to various partners, including carrier companies, in order to get the feedback.
