After LG, Motorola and Samsung, Asus is likely to be the next one to launch a smartwatch powered by Google’s Android Wear software platform.

According to a report by TechCrunch, Asus’s Android Wear smartwatch will be released sometime around September. The watch will sport an AMOLED display, it adds.

The publication cites sources close to Asus to report that the smartwatch will be priced cheaper compared to LG and Samsung smartwatches, and will likely be priced between $99 and $149. The source also informed that Asus did not want to rush their efforts and decided to wait instead of releasing it at Google I/O.

It is not the first time that news of the Taiwanese device maker working on a smartwatch has appeared online. In March,Asus chairman Jonney Shih had suggested that the company was working on a wearable device that will be capable of being controlled using voice commands or customizable hand movements.

Google had announced Android Wear – a project that extends Android to wearables like smartwatches, in March. Google had said that it was working with several consumer electronics manufacturers, including Asus, HTC, LG, Motorola and Samsung; chip makers Broadcom, Imagination, Intel, Mediatek and Qualcomm; and fashion brands like the Fossil Group to bring consumers watches powered by Android Wear later this year.
