Apple SIM Will Allow Users To Switch Their Telecom Operators !

ITVoice News: The tech giant, Apple has noted on its website about the launch of a new sim card known as Apple SIM wil iPad Air 2. It said on its website, “Apple SIM gives you the flexibility to choose from a variety of short-term plans from select carriers in the US and UK right on your iPad.” It further noted that the US and UK customers, having carrier subsidies will now be able to switch their telecom operators.

apple_store_reflection_reutersBy just few clicks on their screens different operators, for instance, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile in US will put forward the list of plans available, and the buyer will just have to select from that list. However if we go by Indian carrier system, here it doesn’t involve any sort of carrier subsidies. Thus, Apple will have a different treatment for the telecom operators here.

The concept of nano sim was limited to only iPhone few years back, which later got adapted by other smartphone makers like Motorola, Sony, Samsung, HTC, etc. as well. If such big OEMs start using proprietary sim card like Apple SIM, then different telecom operators across the globe will also eventually adopt this technology. Knowing the fact that Android has a larger market as compared to Apple in India, thus there might be possibilities for these companies to introduce the proprietary sim technology in country besides Apple.

Apple on its website notes, “You can choose the plan that works best for you — with no long-term commitments. And when you travel, you may also be able to choose a data plan from a local carrier for the duration of your trip,” which means that the users will be able to switch carriers on just few tap of the buttons, which might even range for a short trip and then skipping back to the other operator.

In India many users go for Mobile Number Portability (MNP), despite of the fact that buying a new sim is easier for them. As per the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai)’s data over 100 million users have gone for MNP up till May’2014.

Apple SIM technology will have all the potential to change the working style of telecom industry. However, since it will require changes in the government regulations as well, thus it might take few years for the advent of technology in India which allows user to quickly change its operator.
