Within 12 hours of the launch, 35,000 units of the Apple iPhones were sold, which means 10,000 units more have been sold than the 25,000 phones which were pre-booked. Final sales figures of the first day are awaited today.

Apple iphoneBut several iPhone buyers were bit disappointed because of sufficient supplies at Apple store as they were dreaming to resell the devices at premium rates in the black markets. iPhone 6 16GB was sold at Rs 53,500, the 64GB version was available at Rs 62,500 and 128GB version could be bought at Rs 71,500. On the other side, iPhone 6 Plus variants were sold for Rs 62,500, Rs 71,500 and Rs 80,500. Long queues could be spotted in front of Apple stores before the midnight launch on 17 October.

The iPhones have arrived at a time in India when the entire country is beaming in festive mood ahead of Diwali. An Apple reseller in India, Ingram Micro’s manager said the visitors at their store had a mixed variety as some of them came to buy the phone seriously while others wanted just to touch the phone once. But the black market was still shining as Quikr.com was selling the 64GB iPhone Plus at Rs 80,000, as per media reports. Some people, who didn’t prefer to stand in the queue and also not miss the opportunity to buy the phone on its launch date only, opted for these black markets too.
